The Duafe, traditionally known as the African comb, or alternatively termed as the ‘African pick’ or ‘Afro pick’, stands as an emblem of womanhood, affection, nurturing, and cleanliness. Among the Akan people, it embodies attributes traditionally associated with femininity, including affection, wisdom, and patience.

Contrary to the initial belief that the Duafe originated in the 1970s, archaeological findings have revealed its existence spans back several millennia, with wooden combs discovered that date approximately 7,000 years ago.

Our Duafe collection pays homage to Akan women, serving as the muse behind Arteefak’s exclusive edition series. This initiative was sparked by a piece of jewelry, specifically an earring, purchased by our designer Shivani Gupta. This collection is a celebration of the legacy of Akan women, encapsulating the essence of femininity through the ages.
